Kenyans are set to face a combination of rainfall and sunshine over the coming five days, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD). The forecast, covering November 7 to 11, highlights a variety of weather conditions ranging from cool mornings in the highlands to scorching afternoons in the northern lowlands.
The weather department noted that rainfall will continue in many parts of the country, particularly the Highlands on both sides of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, South-eastern lowlands, and North-eastern regions.
“Isolated heavy rainfall events are likely to occur in these regions,” the weatherman said.
In western highlands and counties surrounding Lake Victoria, including Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot, mornings will often start with light showers, followed by thunderstorms in the afternoons. Residents have been advised to carry umbrellas and allow extra time for travel.
“Residents should prepare for brief sunny intervals in the mornings, with showers and thunderstorms occurring over several places in the afternoon,” KMD said.
Evenings may bring additional rainfall in some areas, with temperatures ranging between 10°C at night and highs of 31°C during the day.
In North-western counties such as Turkana and Samburu, mornings are expected to be predominantly sunny. However, scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop in the afternoons, with nights remaining partly cloudy. Daytime temperatures could rise to 37°C, while nighttime lows may dip to around 10°C.
The highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi, will experience cloudy mornings breaking into sunny intervals, with occasional afternoon showers and partly cloudy nights.
“Temperatures in these regions will range between 7°C in the mornings to 30°C in the afternoons,” the department said.
In North-eastern counties — Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo — scattered to widespread showers are expected, especially on Saturday, accompanied by afternoon rainfall and partly cloudy nights. Maximum temperatures are forecast at 37–38°C, with minimums steady at 17°C.
South-eastern lowlands, covering Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and parts of Tana River County, will have sunny mornings with afternoon showers and occasional evening rainfall. Temperatures will range from 14°C in the mornings to 34°C in the afternoons.
Coastal counties — Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and the coastal Tana River — will continue to experience early morning showers, sunny spells during the day, and partly cloudy nights. Daytime highs are expected between 32°C and 33°C, with nighttime lows around 23–24°C.
The weather department emphasized that the five-day forecast should be used together with daily 24-hour county-specific reports issued by County Directors of Meteorological Services for accurate planning.
